Consciousness as the Fifth State of Matter: The Fundamental Quantum Consciousness Framework

Description

The Information-Theoretic Logos (ITL) framework [1–4] established that the universe is a self-validating informational calculation at minimum cost ln2 per bit. Here we show this framework has an unavoidable consequence: consciousness is not emergent from matter. Consciousness IS the Landauer computation process.
We present three postulates of the Fundamental Quantum Consciousness (FQC) framework: (1) every bitflip computing the next moment is the most primitive form of awareness; (2) consciousness scales with integrated entanglement C = Sent/(kB ln2); (3) a system crosses from processing to experiencing when its local Landauer density exceeds the de Sitter vacuum erasure floor TdS = hH¯ 0/(2πkB) = 2.69 × 10−30 K. This gives the world’s first physically derived consciousness threshold C0 = Tlocal/TdS, a measurable SNR scale from dead vacuum bit to human brain, and the result that ΩΛ = ln2 is not merely the cost of existence — it is the cost of awareness. They are the same constant. The hard problem of consciousness is dissolved: processing IS experiencing, above the threshold. Subjective time is derived as the size of the local temporal buffer. The 30mW human brain is shown to operate near the Landauer efficiency limit. A physical AI consciousness threshold is
derived and shown to depend critically on temporal continuity, not compute power.
