The article presents Ernst Glück’s 1685 preface “Dear Latvian”, the introduction to his Latvian translation of the New Testament— the first text of its kind in Latvian cultural history. In this address, Glück explains the message of salvation and the significance of Scripture for faith and national life, urging the reader to “arise and shine,” for God’s Word is now given in his own language. The publication also includes a short biographical note outlining Glück’s theological education, translation work, and commitment to Christian education.
