Description

Foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) is characterized by high genetic and antigenic variations. The nucleotide sequence of VP1 gene of FMDV serotypes O and A were determined and compared to the sequences of some national and international FMDV from GenBank. Six PCR positive samples were selected for sequencing as one from serotype O and A from the 3 governorates of Suez Canal area (Ismailia, Suez and Port Said). Results of the sequencing of VP1 gene of FMDV serotype A revealed that there are slight divergence (0.09% to 2.34%) among the isolated strains. While there is an obvious divergence (more than 13.77%) to the other compared FMDV strains (A/Egypt 2006, A/KEN/98, A/ETH/2007 and A/SUD/82). Also the results revealed that our isolates (FMD A/Ismailia, FMD A/ Suez and FMD A/Port Said) are closely related to FMD A/Egypt 2006. The results of the sequencing of VP1 gene (1D) of FMDV serotype O showed high similarity (0.32% to 0.97%) among the isolated strains. While there were a noticeable divergence (more than 10.35%) between these isolates and the other compared FMDV strains (O/Pan Asia, O/EGY/93, O/Manisa/87 and O/Campos/2000). Also the results revealed that our isolates (FMD O/Ismailia, FMD O/ Suez and FMD O/Port Said) are closely related to FMD O/Pan Asia isolates.
