Dataset for Sárközy et al., 2026 - Common Wood Pigeons (Columba palumbus): avian bioindicators for antimicrobial resistance at the human-wildlife interface

This dataset belongs to the manuscript (MS) titled  "Common Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus): an avian bioindicator of antimicrobial resistance at the human-wildlife interface" written by Áron Sárközy, Eszter Nagy, Attila Bende, Ágnes Csivincsik, Brigitta Bóta, Gábor Nagy, and Tamás Tari.

This study aimed to determine the potential of Common Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus) as a bioindicator of background AMR load in landscapes, and the link between AMR load and landscape diversity. The study utilised specimens harvested in the framework of legal population control activity regulated by Hungarian law, specifically Act No. 1996/LV on Wildlife and Act No. 79/2004. (V. 4.) FVM Regulation on its implementation; none of the animals were culled for scientific purposes. 

The dataset contains land cover data of the study sites, morphometric characteristics of the sampled carcasses (including body weight, body and tail length), a list of isolated bacteria with Gram classification, and results of identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing by VITEK 2 Compact. Additionally, tables, diagrams, and full-size images are provided to support the understanding of the research background.
