1969. Stenopelmatus nigrocapitatus. Pan-Pacific Entomologist, 45, 4–14. Holotype, adult male: California, Fresno Co., Jacalitos Canyon. Deposited CAS, Entomology type #10120. Specimen examined. (Note mistaken reversal of labels in original publication [Tinkham & Rentz 1969], with A. nigrocapitatus in Fig. 2 and A. pictus in Fig. 3).

Species #21, Weissman (2001b).

2021 Ammopelmatus nigrocapitatus. Weissman et al., Zootaxa, 4917, 1–122. Transferred to Ammopelmatus based on rear leg tibial spines and DNA.
