Type locality. Ecuador, Santa Inés.

Diagnosis. Body orange brown. Frons with well-marked triangular dark brown patch. Thorax with quite evident white longitudinal stripes. Wing hyaline without spot on crossveins, veins orange.

Redescription. Female. Body length: 10.6–11.8 mm (X = 11.2 mm, N = 3), wing length: 11.2–11.5 mm (X = 11.4 mm, N = 3).

Head. Frons slightly divergent below, divergence index 0.8–0.9 (X = 0.8, N = 3), frontal index 1.6–1.8 (X = 1.7, N = 3). Frons with dark brown triangular patch, extending to the apex and almost touching the eyes at its base, slightly narrower towards the apex. Apex dark brown with long black setulae, prominent ocellar triangle, orange brown ocelli. Subcallus covered with whitish pruinosity. Subcallus orange brown near the insertion of antennae. Parafacial brown covered with whitish pruinosity. Gena covered with whitish pruinosity and dense long white setulae. Clypeus brown with whitish pruinosity and sparse black and yellowish setulae, clypeal index 0.6–0.8 (X = 0.7, N = 3). Scape and pedicel brown with sparse black and yellowish setulae. Flagellum orange-brown, last flagellomeres dark. First segment of palpus orange brown with long black and yellowish setulae; second segment orange with a few black setulae. Proboscis dark brown shiny, about 3x the height of the frons. Thorax. Scutum orange brown with black setulae and some sparse orange setulae and quite evident white longitudinal stripes. Sublateral and lateral stripes connected by a white stripe at the transverse suture. Median stripe less evident and extending to the posterior margin of the scutum. Scutellum orange brown with whitish pruinosity and dense long yellowish setulae. Notopleuron with tuft of dense black and yellowish setulae. Anepisternum and katepisternum with tufts of black setulae. Anepimeron with black and white setulae. Postalar callus with tuft of long dense whitish-yellow setulae. Pterostigma brownish. Legs dark brown with long dense black setulae on coxae, trochanters and femora and short dense black setulae on tibiae and tarsi. Wing hyaline with brown veins. Abdomen. Tergites orangish-brown with dense black setulae. Tergites 2 and 3 with posterior band of whitish pruinosity and some white setulae. Tergites 4 to 6 with dense white setulae. Lateral margin of tergites 2 to 6 with dense white setulae. Sternites with black and white setulae and a narrow posterior band of grayish pruinosity.

Distribution. Ecuador, Peru.

Type material examined. Holotype, ♀, deposited at the MNHUB (examined through photographs).

Additional material examined. 1 ♀, “ Ecuador, Azuay, Guarumales, (2462 m), (2º36.64’’S 78º31.35’’), 29 Oct—1 Nov 2007, J. Buestan / CJB 9089 ” (MECN); 1 ♀, “idem/ CJB 9090 ” (MECN); 1 ♀, “idem/ CJB 9088 ” (MECN).

Comments. This species resembles S. claripennis, from which it differs mainly in the structure of the patch on the frons. In S. claripennis the patch is a central triangle that is not very wide and does not extend to the vertex. In S. strigata the patch is more marked and extends to the vertex. Furthermore, the thoracic stripes are wider in S. strigata.
