State of intellectual property governance of artificial intelligence in Africa Report
Description
The State of intellectual property governance of artificial intelligence in Africa Report is the first baseline study in respect of the “Catalyzing AI’s potential in Africa through intellectual property innovation” project. The report examines the interaction between AI development and IP governance across 10 African countries: Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. It analyses how existing copyright, trade mark and patent regimes intersect with the AI lifecycle; identifies emerging IP governance tensions within the AI ecosystem, and evaluates how national AI strategies and policy frameworks across Africa are beginning to address those challenges. It explores the extent to which existing IP laws are clear and adequate to address the use and creation of IP-protected materials in the development and deployment of AI.
