Tan et al.; MIN.25.23 • 1♂; Negros Island, Negros Oriental, Valencia, agroforest near Casaroro Falls; N9.27954 E123.20666, 624.0± 18.8 m.a.s.l.; 16 October 2025, 17h41; under rock near stream; coll. Remarks. A female collected from Mindanao allowed us to compare with the redescription by Gorochov (1996) (Figs 10A–E). Our female specimen has outer tympanum small and oval and inner tympanum elongated and larger (Figs 10A, B), very similar to that in Gorochov (1996). The apical part of ovipositor is laterally widened; lateral margin of dorsal valve and lower margin of ventral valve each with around five medium-sized rounded teeth (Figs 10C, 10D); but these teeth appear considerably more laterally protruding and separated than that illustrated in Gorochov (1996).
Males were collected from the same site in Mindanao and in Negros Oriental, and they are not different from the male from Agusan del Sur (Tan et al., 2023), especially in the male genitalia (Figs 10F–K). The male genitalia of Strophiola lugubrina from Mindanao and Negros Islands are very similar to that of Strophiola tangkoko Gorochov, 2011 from northern Sulawesi by the shape of ectophallic fold (somewhat asymmetrical with the right lobe unnotched and left lobe notched) and endophallic sclerite (with two short and wide proximal, and two longer and narrower distal projections). It is possible that the specimens from Mindanao and Negros Islands are Strophiola tangkoko instead, or that Strophiola tangkoko and Strophiola lugubrina belong to the same species. Since it is not possible to ascertain the locality of the female holotype of Strophiola lugubrina (other than that it is from the Philippines), we cannot confirm these propositions. We consider here the specimens from Mindanao and Negros Islands as Strophiola lugubrina simply based on the type locality of this species, as well as to avoid adding a new locality record for Strophiola tangkoko when the identity is not verified.
Note that in Tan et al. (2023, Fig. 35H), the endophallic sclerite was wrongly labelled as ectophallic fold.
Type locality. PHILIPPINES: Luzon Island (de Elera, 1895).
Distribution. Luzon (Los Baños, Manila, Laguna), Mindanao (Agusan del Sur, Lanao del Norte), Negros Island [new locality record].
