The Hebrew–Serbian Dictionary (2001) is a foundational lexicographic work aimed at establishing a systematic linguistic bridge between Hebrew and Serbian. The dictionary encompasses both Biblical (Ancient Hebrew) and elements of Modern Hebrew, enabling a multi-layered understanding of the Hebrew lexical system within its historical and contemporary contexts.

The structure of the dictionary is based on principles of modern lexicography, while also incorporating traditional philological approaches characteristic of Hebrew studies. Lexical entries are presented with precise meanings, contextual usage, and, where relevant, etymological and semantic relationships, particularly within the framework of biblical texts. Special attention is given to the accuracy of translation equivalents and the preservation of semantic nuances inherent in the Semitic linguistic system.

The dictionary has significant applications in the fields of biblical philology, theology, linguistics, and translation studies, as well as in education and independent learning of the Hebrew language. Its value lies in enabling direct access to original Hebrew texts, especially the Bible, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of their linguistic and theological content.

This work represents one of the pioneering contributions to the development of Hebrew studies in the Serbian-speaking region and a significant step toward establishing a systematic lexicographic bridge between Semitic and Indo-European languages.

APSTRAKT

Hebrejsko-srpski rečnik Željko Stanojević, Rad (2001) predstavlja temeljno leksikografsko delo namenjeno povezivanju hebrejskog i srpskog jezičkog prostora kroz sistematsku obradu leksičkog materijala. Rečnik obuhvata kako biblijski (starojevrejski), tako i elemente savremenog hebrejskog jezika, čime omogućava višeslojno razumevanje hebrejskog leksičkog sistema u njegovom istorijskom i savremenom kontekstu.

Struktura rečnika zasniva se na principima moderne leksikografije, uz integraciju tradicionalnih filoloških pristupa karakterističnih za hebraistiku. Leksičke jedinice obrađene su uz navođenje značenja, kontekstualnih upotreba i, gde je relevantno, etimoloških i semantičkih veza, posebno u okviru biblijskog teksta. Posebna pažnja posvećena je preciznosti prevodnih ekvivalenata i očuvanju nijansi značenja koje proizlaze iz specifičnosti semitskog jezičkog sistema.

Rečnik ima značajnu primenu u oblastima biblijske filologije, teologije, lingvistike i prevodilačke prakse, ali i u obrazovanju i samostalnom učenju hebrejskog jezika. Njegova vrednost ogleda se u tome što omogućava direktan pristup izvornim hebrejskim tekstovima, posebno Svetom pismu, čime doprinosi dubljem razumevanju njihovog jezičkog i teološkog sadržaja.
