Description

Ostracion cubicum Linnaeus 1758 − Yellow boxfish

Gulf of Suez: Egypt (Gruvel & Chabanaud 1937).

Gulf of Aqaba: Israel (Ben-Tuvia & Steinitz 1952), Jordan (Bouchon et al. 1981).

Red Sea main basin: Egypt (Rüppell 1828), Saudi Arabia (Roux-Estève & Fourmanoir 1955, as Ostracion tuberculatus), Eritrea (Guichenot 1847), Saudi Arabia (Klausewitz 1967, as Ostracion tuberculatus), Yemen (Heba et al. 1998).

General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Tuamotu Archipelago, straying to Hawaiian Islands.

IUCN (2024): Least Concern.

Remarks: Lessepsian migrant in eastern Mediterranean Sea (Bariche 2011; Çinar et al. 2021).
