AI Literacy among Librarians: A Conceptual Framework for Preparedness in an AI-Driven Information Environment

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way information is created, organized, accessed, and delivered. Libraries are increasingly using AI-based systems in cataloguing, discovery platforms, digital repositories, recommendation tools, and virtual reference services. As these technologies become part of everyday library operations, librarians need AI literacy — not only technical awareness, but also the ability to critically evaluate AI outputs and ensure ethical use.This paper presents a conceptual framework of AI literacy for librarians. It builds upon traditional information literacy and expands it to include understanding AI systems, recognizing AI-generated content, evaluating bias, protecting user privacy, and participating in institutional decision-making. The paper argues that AI should be seen as a supportive partner in library work, and that structured education and professional development are essential for responsible adoption.
