Parental Decision-Making Scale for Private Tuition
Description
The Parental Decision-Making Scale for Private Tuition (PDMSPT) is a standardized psychological tool. It is developed to assess the factors influencing parents’ decisions regarding the enrolment of their children in private tuition. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behaviour, the scale captures key dimensions such as perceived benefits, social influence, and feasibility. In the Indian context, where private tuition has emerged as a significant parallel education system, understanding parental decision-making is crucial for both researchers and policymakers. The scale consists of 20 items measured on a five-point Likert format and demonstrates strong reliability and validity. It is particularly useful for studies exploring educational choices, shadow education, and socio-economic disparities. The PDMSPT provides a systematic and empirical approach to analyse how attitudes, societal expectations, and resource constraints shape parental choices in contemporary education systems.
