Urban Quality Of Life

Authors/Creators

Description

The urbanization process, which accelerated with the Industrial Revolution, brought environmental, social, and economic problems with it, bringing the concept of "urban quality of life" to the forefront. Cities, thanks to the opportunities they offered, became centers of attraction that facilitated people's lives. However, rapidly increasing urbanization also brought about the depletion of natural resources and sustainability issues. Improving the quality of urban life requires meeting the social, economic, environmental, cultural, and psychological needs of individuals. For this purpose, measures such as urban planning, infrastructure development, preservation of historical and cultural values, and increased access to education and healthcare are crucial. Furthermore, ensuring a safe living environment, improving social amenities, establishing environmental sustainability guidelines, and making urban services accessible are essential. In this context, reaching a consensus on indicators that determine urban quality of life plays a critical role in clarifying the definition of the ideal city and improving the living standards of city residents.
