Reducing Dropout Rates in Urban Legal Education Programmes: A Nairobi Slums Case Study
Description
Urban youth in Nairobi slums face significant barriers to accessing legal education programmes, including financial constraints, cultural stigma, and inadequate school infrastructure. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data on enrolment and retention with qualitative insights from student surveys and focus group discussions to assess programme impact. Improved access to legal education resources, enhanced financial aid for students, and increased mentorship programmes contributed to a notable reduction in dropout rates. The intervention's success highlights the importance of tailored support systems in urban slum settings to mitigate barriers to legal education. Expanding similar initiatives across other Nairobi slums and scaling up successful components for broader implementation.
