Description

These Simons Collaboration on Ocean Processes and Ecology (SCOPE) data products were produced by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with support from the Simons Foundation.

Size fractionated 14C-PP were incubated for 24 hours in 500 mL bottles and subsequently filtered onto glass fiber filters (100 mL) with the filtrate sequentially filtered through a >10 µm (400 mL), 2 mm (400 mL), and 0.2 mm (100 mL) polycarbonate membrane filters. Samples were processed as in Karl et al. (2021) to generate 14C-PP in the  0.2–2 µm, 2-10 µm, and >10 µm size fractions. Community 14C-PP measurements were obtained by filtering bulk seawater onto 25 mm Whatman glass fiber filters (GF/F; 0.7 µm pore size) (Karl et al. 1996), and rates were derived from 24-hour incubations.
