Preliminary effects of a natural bait on Coptotermes gestroi

This poster presents preliminary field results from a natural-bait trial targeting the invasive subterranean termite Coptotermes gestroi in coastal areas of Réunion Island. The trial used an 8% active polyphenolic pellet formulation converted into a paste and introduced directly into active cavities in infested Casuarina equisetifolia. Across four inspections, repeated bait recharges indicated consistent consumption. Treated trees showed an apparent decrease in activity, while some nearby non-treated trees and stumps displayed similar trends. At the last inspection, soldiers from treated cavities appeared less turgid and showed dull cuticle and altered coloration, suggesting physiological stress.
