Taming the Brute Fact: A Falsifiable Resolution to the Hard Problem and the Explanatory Gap
Authors/Creators
Description
This work provides a formal resolution to the Hard Problem of consciousness by dismantling the mapping demand—the arbitrary requirement that subjective experience (the Glow) must be anchored to specific human neural architectures. Utilizing a biophysical framework, this research demonstrates that Dependency without Remainder is Identity.
Key Theoretical Frameworks:
- Thermodynamic Identity: Subjective experience is identified as the internal registration of metabolic friction, governed by Landauer’s Principle and the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem (FDT).
- The Forensic Flytrap Falsification: Uses the Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) as a mechanical analog to prove that identical recursive loop functions—under invariant biophysical principles—leave no metaphysical remainder.
- Friction Signatures: Proposes that qualitative differences (e.g., Red vs. Anxiety) are not separate properties but distinct dissipative profiles measurable via non-equilibrium markers, entropy gradients, and broken detailed balance.
Methodology and Falsification:
The Explanatory Gap is collapsed into a pseudo-problem by applying Leibniz’s Law of the Identity of Indiscernibles. The theory offers three specific tests (Energy, Temporal, and Magnitude) to prove that the Glow possesses no independent properties from the Grind (metabolic work). By anchoring qualia to measurable metabolic debt, this work shifts consciousness from metaphysical speculation to a verifiable physical invariance.
