Reseña de «Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2»
Description
This work presents a critical analysis of Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2, developed by Dimps and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Originally published on CoolJapan.es in 2017, the review examines the game’s mechanics, audiovisual presentation, narrative structure, and its approach to transposing the aesthetics and combat logic of the Dragon Ball franchise into an interactive format.
The analysis pays particular attention to the hybridization of fighting game mechanics with role-playing and massively multiplayer elements, the design of player-created avatars within a transmedia fictional universe, and the title’s emphasis on replayability through online interaction, character customization, and alternate narrative scenarios. Technical aspects such as engine performance, animation fidelity, sound design, and voice acting are also assessed in relation to their capacity to evoke the visual and sonic identity of the original anime and manga.
While acknowledging the game’s strengths in terms of audiovisual authenticity and gameplay fluidity, the review critically addresses its continuist design choices and limited narrative innovation when compared to its predecessor. As a whole, the text contributes to game studies and anime studies by offering a detailed, contemporaneous evaluation of Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 as a case study in licensed videogame adaptation and fan-oriented design.
