The Genesis Algebra: How a Single Map Produces Coherence, Time, and Energy

Description:

The self-referential axiom σ = 1/(1+σ), foundation of the Pentagon Physics programme, has been used across forty companion papers to derive physical constants from geometry. This paper asks a more primitive question: what does the axiom produce before it produces constants?

The answer is a locked triple. Reading the axiom as the iterative map g(a) = 1/(1+a), three outputs emerge simultaneously and inseparably: a fixed point σ = φ⁻¹ (coherence), a contraction rate g′(σ) = −φ⁻² (time), and a partition function Z = φ² (energy). These satisfy the exact identity |g′(σ)| × Z = 1. The partition function is the axiom itself: Z = φ² = φ + 1. The system regulates its own entropy without external input.

The paper establishes six results from zero parameters:

(1) Time is forced. The nontrivial derivative of the map requires a process parameter independent of the three spatial dimensions, which are committed to the icosahedral geometry. Three arguments (isotropy, symmetry, type) show the iteration cannot inhabit the existing spatial structure.

(2) The Boltzmann formula S = k·ln(W) is a theorem. The negative derivative forbids consecutive captures at each step, yielding Fibonacci state-counting. The state space grows as φⁿ. The entropy per step is k·ln(φ). The arrow of time follows from |φ| > |ψ| without special initial conditions.

(3) The metric carries a minus sign from the discriminant. The field norm of ℚ(√5) is N(x) = a² − 5b², indefinite by algebraic necessity. Combined with the dimensional staircase (three spatial dimensions from geometry, one temporal from the process), this produces signature (3,1).

(4) The axiom is its own thermostat. The contraction rate |g′(σ)| = σ² is a local property (derivative at a point). The partition function Z = 1/(1−σ) is a global property (sum over the orbit). They are reciprocals because σ + σ² = 1 is the axiom. No external bath. No tuning.

(5) The axiom is unique. Among all rational functions constructible from {1, +, ×, /} with no external coefficient, σ = 1/(1+σ) is the only equation with a unique, stable, non-trivial fixed point.

(6) Coherence, time, and energy are co-primary. The earlier claim that coherence is primary is revised: the axiom produces all three simultaneously. The ontological coherence of the broader programme corresponds to φψ = −1, the timeless constraint identified with light. The fixed point σ = φ⁻¹ is where the process converges. These are different concepts, now distinguished.

The paper also identifies the contraction eigenvalue −φ⁻² within the 600-cell adjacency spectrum (multiplicity 25, from the V⊗V structure of the binary icosahedral group), shows that the eigenvalue chain propagates through four dynamical levels via successive multipliers √5, φ, φ², and demonstrates that the Lagrangian curvature at the self-referential minimum equals half the discriminant: V″(φ⁻¹) = Δ/2 = 5/2.
