Challenges and Opportunities for E-commerce Adoption by Egyptian SMEs in the Contemporary Business Landscape
Description
In recent years, Egypt has seen a significant growth in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), driven by government initiatives aimed at fostering economic development. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative survey data with qualitative interviews to gather insights from a diverse sample of Egyptian SMEs across various sectors. A notable finding is that the majority (65%) of surveyed SMEs report difficulties in integrating e-commerce into their business models due to technical challenges and insufficient digital infrastructure. This study highlights the pivotal role of government support, technological advancements, and collaborative efforts among stakeholders for facilitating a smoother transition towards e-commerce adoption by Egyptian SMEs. Recommendations include prioritising investment in digital literacy programmes for SME owners, implementing targeted public-private partnerships to address infrastructure gaps, and fostering an ecosystem that encourages innovation and growth through e-commerce platforms.
