Mobile Apps in Mathematics Education: A Qualitative Study of Student Outcomes in Rural Kenyan Secondary Schools

Mobile learning applications are increasingly being used in education to enhance student engagement and outcomes, particularly in rural settings where access to traditional resources can be limited. The study employed a qualitative approach involving interviews with students and teachers, as well as documentation of app usage and student learning activities. Students reported increased confidence in solving mathematical problems using the apps, with a significant improvement (30%) in their test scores after regular use over six months. The findings suggest that mobile apps can be effective tools for improving mathematics education in rural settings, though further research is needed to validate these results and explore broader implications. Schools should integrate mobile learning applications into the curriculum with proper training for teachers on app use and pedagogical strategies.
