Description
This practical work focuses on the study of liquid-liquid extraction, a fundamental unit operation in chemical engineering. The main objective is to determine the partition coefficient (K) of benzoic acid between two immiscible phases: an aqueous solution and an organic phase consisting of sunflower oil. Through an experimental approach using volumetric titration with a NaOH solution in the presence of phenolphthalein, the report compares the efficiency of a single extraction with that of multiple extractions. The results obtained, including calculations of concentrations, amounts of substance, and yields (R_1 and R_2), demonstrate that a fractional extraction process allows for greater solute recovery, thus validating theoretical mass transfer models.
