Description

This record is an archival, time-stamped snapshot of the World List of Cycads (WLoC), a curated catalogue of cycad taxonomy created under the auspices of the IUCN/SSC Cycad Specialist Group. It summarizes the status of all known extant cycad names, including accepted species and infraspecific taxa, synonyms and other nomenclatural judgments (e.g., illegitimate/invalid names), authorship abbreviations, type indications where applicable, and country-level distributions. The list follows standard botanical abbreviations (e.g., Brummitt & Powell; IPNI) and reflects expert curation as of the version date indicated in the PDF. This deposit is intended for citation and reproducible reference to the taxonomic state of WLoC on that date; ongoing updates appear at the project website (https://www.cycadlist.org). Please cite the version DOI of this record. Development of the WLoC has been supported in part by the U.S. National Science Foundation Award #2140319. World List of Cycads — Changelog

Scope. This changelog lists taxonomic and nomenclatural updates to the World List of Cycads since the previous archival snapshot (version 2025.09.04-r1), published on September 4, 2025 via Zenodo.

Newly Added Accepted Species

  • Zamia urarinorum Calonje, R.Zárate & M.Asa Jones — Arborescent species from Amazonian wetland forests of Loreto, Peru.

Synonyms Added

  • Cycas panshuiensis Y.Yang = Cycas debaoensis Y.C.Zhong & C.J.Chen

Changes in Status

  • Cycas baiseensis Y.Y.Huang — Moved from accepted species to illegitimate name (nom. superfl., ICN Art. 52.2). The name is superfluous because C. panshuiensis Y.Yang (2017) had already legitimately replaced the later homonym C. gracilis Y.Y.Huang, Y.C.Zhong & Z.F.Lu (2008), non Miq. (1863).

The Cycas changes above follow Xi et al. (2024), "Taxonomic studies of Cycas debaoensis (Cycadaceae) from China," Phytotaxa 660(1): 9. https://doi.org/10.11646/phytotaxa.660.1.9
