PROJECT-BASED LEARNING APPROACH IN ENGLISH FOR LAWYERS: A MODEL OF AUTHENTIC ESP COURSE DESIGN
Description
This paper presents an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course model created for professional lawyers using the Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach. The course adapts the English for Cross-Cultural Nursing framework to legal contexts, focusing on real communication, intercultural understanding, and professional importance. The syllabus is based on a thorough needs analysis that combines interviews, workplace observations, and document analysis. It also includes diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment. The PBL framework promotes problem-solving through real legal tasks like client interviews, negotiations, and document drafting. The study shows how effective authentic ESP instruction is in improving language skills, critical thinking, and professional communication among adult learners.
