Description
This paper examines the relevance of medieval Jain Marathi literature in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The core principles of NEP 2020—such as holistic education, value-based learning, the promotion of mother tongue and multilingualism, mental well-being, experiential and story-based pedagogy, and the emphasis on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)- are found to be deeply embedded in Jain Marathi literary works composed between the 14th and 17th centuries. These texts not only impart spiritual and ethical values but also nurture emotional balance, social responsibility, and intellectual development through narrative and experiential modes of learning. The study discusses these key aspects and highlights their contemporary relevance. It further emphasizes the need for focused academic research on this literary tradition to better understand its potential contributions to present and future educational frameworks.
