Description
The resurgence of tariff-based trade disputes has significantly altered contemporary international economic relations. Tariff wars, characterized by reciprocal increases in import duties, influence not only trade flows but also diplomatic alignment and strategic decision-making among nations. This study investigates the economic, political, and strategic consequences of tariff conflicts by examining the United States–China trade war and the United States–India tariff escalation. Using secondary data and comparative analytical techniques, changes in trade volumes, sector-specific price movements, and supply chain disruptions are evaluated. The analysis reveals that sustained tariff escalation contributes to trade contraction, cost transmission to consumers, and structural adjustments within global value chains. While tariffs are frequently introduced to protect domestic interests, prolonged reliance on such measures weakens cooperative trade mechanisms and encourages fragmentation of the global trading system. The study highlights variations in economic adaptability between developed and emerging economies under tariff-induced pressure.
