Mapping the Global Gender Wage Gap: a Systematic Literature Review of Regional Determinants and Methodologies
Description
This systematic literature review provides a comprehensive examination of the gender wage gap across various global regions, analysing key determinants, policy interventions, and applied methodologies to study the gender wage gap. The study encompasses developed, developing, and transition economies, with a specific focus on Europe, Asia, North America, South America, the former Soviet Union, and Africa. The authors combined findings from 73 empirical articles selected from an initial pool of 1,267 references. The findings highlight that while developed economies have made progress in reducing wage disparities, developing and transition economies continue to struggle with structural labor market inequalities and weak enforcement of policies. Future research should focus on region-specific interventions to achieve sustainable progress in closing the gender wage gap.
