In order to prevent destitution and provide financial stability for dependent spouses, children, and elderly parents, maintenance laws are a crucial part of India\'s social welfare and family justice system. The Hindu Marriage Act of 1955, the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act of 1956, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act of 1986, and other community-specific statutes supplement these provisions, which are mainly based on Sections 125 and 127 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1973.
