Hora satului. Locul de joc sau de danț

The village dance was and, in some places, still is, a premarital custom with a ceremonial function where the youth of a certain age publicly manifest their preferences towards a potential marriage partner. The village dance has different names in different regions, but it was a practice that was spread throughout the country. In this paper we intend to provide a detailed description of what the village dance was in different Romanian regions and an assessment of its present state.
