PHRASEOLOGISMS AND IDIOMS AS CARRIERS OF CULTURAL STEREOTYPES IN THE LINGUISTIC WORLDVIEW

  • 1. Master's student in German Language and Literature

Description

This article examines phraseologisms and idioms as carriers of cultural stereotypes in the linguistic worldview. The study is based on the assumption that fixed expressions represent not only communicative units but also repositories of cultural knowledge. On the basis of a qualitative and interpretative analysis of selected German phraseologisms, metaphorical structures, conceptual schemes, and normative implications are reconstructed. The research demonstrates that idiomatic expressions linguistically condense and reproduce collective value systems, national self-images, gender roles, as well as emotional concepts. At the same time, it becomes clear that phraseologisms exist within the tension between tradition and social change and therefore perform both stabilizing and transformative functions.
