African Philosophy in Senegal: Contributions to Global Ethical Debates

African philosophy in Senegal is a vibrant field that has contributed to global ethical debates by integrating traditional values with contemporary issues. The research employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating qualitative content analysis of Senegalese philosophical texts with comparative literature reviews of global ethical frameworks. Interviews with contemporary African philosophers are also conducted to provide insights into the relevance of Senegalese philosophy in today's discourse. A specific finding is that Senegalese philosophy emphasizes the importance of collective welfare and communal responsibility, a theme that resonates strongly with global debates on distributive justice and community cohesion. This approach offers a unique perspective not typically found in Western philosophical traditions. The study concludes by highlighting the potential for African philosophies to offer innovative solutions to contemporary ethical challenges, particularly those related to social equity and environmental sustainability. Future research should consider expanding geographical scope to include other parts of Africa to better understand regional variations in philosophical contributions. Additionally, there is a need for more direct engagement with Senegalese philosophers to validate the findings through lived experience insights.
