PlayReady Schools: The Operating System for Quality Play
Description
PlayReady Schools is a whole-staff, evidence-informed framework designed to help schools strengthen one of the most demanding and least-supported parts of the school day: outdoor and informal school-day spaces. Developed from a connected program of research led by Associate Professor Brendon Hyndman, including teacher-reported insights from the TOPPING international dataset and related analyses, the framework addresses the persistent gap between valuing outdoor play in principle and making it workable in everyday school practice. PlayReady Schools is presented as an operating system for quality play in the informal curriculum of schooling, combining two framing lenses (staff experience and interconnection) with four core tools: the PlayReady Conditions Audit, PD Blueprint, Sustainment Overlay, and Scorecard and Action Plan. Together, these components are designed to help schools improve clarity, consistency, staff capability, student readiness to learn, and the long-term sustainability of quality play practices. This Founding Framework Paper introduces the model, outlines its distinct contribution, and invites interest in an early founding pilot phase with partner schools.
