Authors/Creators

Description

This study examined the reception and sources of contraceptives' information among undergraduates in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design while survey and focus group discussion served as the research methods. Using a multi-stage sampling procedure, 1,127 undergraduates were selected for the survey, while 30 students participated in three focus group sessions. The questionnaire and focus group guide were the main instruments for data collection. The study found that undergraduates rarely receive information on contraceptives from mainstream media like radio, television, and newspapers, and are generally not adequately exposed to such information. Social media and other online sources emerged as the leading source of contraceptives' information. The study recommends that mainstream media should create more programs on sex education and that universities should organize periodic campaigns on contraceptive use, utilizing dedicated social media platforms to reach students effectively.
