Cultivating Global Citizenship Competencies through the Chin-親 Project: A Generative AI and EdTech–Integrated Pedagogical Model for Classroom Innovation

This document presents the original research report of the “Chin-Project,” which received the First Grade Prize (Minister of Education Award) at the 2024 Classroom Innovation Research Contest hosted by the Ministry of Education of South Korea.

The study proposes an innovative four-stage pedagogical frameworkAuthentic Inquiry, Structured Design, IB Thinking Expansion, and Concrete Actiondesigned to cultivate students’ global citizenship competencies through the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI personas) and diverse EdTech tools in classroom learning.

The Chin-model operates at two complementary levels. At the instructional design level, the project follows a four-stage learning structure connecting inquiry, design, thinking expansion, and action. At the classroom activity level, learning progresses through a problem-solving sequence: (1) Chinchin encountering and exploring global issues, (2) discussion identifying and discussing problems, (3) inquiry investigating possible solutions, and (4) “Real Chinchin” action implementing solutions through student-led practice.

Generative AI personas were utilized as role-play partners and research assistants to support students’ inquiry, discussion, and creative production activities. Students engaged in authentic inquiry through AI-supported dialogue, collaborative problem solving, and digital storytelling. As a core outcome activity, students created AI-generated films addressing global issues and designed challenge-based campaigns to promote real-world action and community engagement.

The project was implemented across 12 instructional sessions organized into three thematic sub-projects focusing on global awareness, everyday practice, and community-based action. The results demonstrate how generative AI and EdTech can be meaningfully integrated into classroom instruction to support inquiry-driven learning, creative production, and action-oriented global citizenship education.
