Observations of waves, currents, and wind forcing at ASIT (Martha's Vineyard, MA, USA), Fall-Winter of 2019-2020
Description
This dataset contains observations of waves, currents, and wind forcing collected at the Air-Sea Interaction Tower (ASIT) south of Martha's Vineyard, MA, USA in late 2019 - early 2020 by a collaborative group (PIs Alejandro Cifuentes-Lorenzen, UConn; Chris Zappa, LDEO-Columbia University; Jim Edson, WHOI). Short wave observations were made via polarimetric camera by Chris Zappa, Nathan Laxague, and collaborators. The files "ASIT2019_wave_spectra_stats_timeseries_empirical_gain.nc" and "ASIT2019_supporting_environmental_observations.nc" are sufficient for the purpose of describing the conditions observed during this period. The inclusion of the other files are justified in the associated code repository (https://github.com/unh-cassll/E-PSS_paper). Codes in that repository also allow one to compute the long wave directional spectra ('ASIT2019_EPSS_directional_spectra.nc') and the short wave slope statistics ('slope_statistics_dataset.nc'). The distinctions between "no_gain", "lab_gain", and "empirical_gain" are outlined in the manuscript contained within the GitHub repository. In short, they represent three distinct approaches to correcting the measured polarization state of light reflected off the sea surface for the purpose of inferring surface wave structure.
Changelog:
Updated version (v2) removes water surface elevation time series with erroneous phase shift, as well as directional spectra computed using those data.
Updated version (v3) contains fixed E-PSS directional spectra (with updated directional masking) as well as the full ten-minute environmental condition dataset.
