Custom and Myth

Andrew Lang’s work, Customs and Myths, is one of the seminal studies in 19th-century folklore and mythology research, examining the origins of traditions, rituals, and myths observed in human societies through a comparative anthropological lens. Lang argues that there are structural similarities between narratives, belief systems, and symbolic practices in different cultures, maintaining that myths are not merely aesthetic or imaginary texts but cultural products that offer clues about the universal workings of the human mind.
