Dataset for: Comparative assessment of metallic residues in marine lubricating oils from ships using HFO and LSFO fuels: Operational implications for maintenance and MARPOL compliance
This repository contains the dataset supporting the research article authored by
Pi‑Yen Lin and Wen‑Hsi Cheng.
The dataset includes elemental concentrations measured in lubricating oil samples
collected from auxiliary diesel generators of two Cape-size bulk carriers operating
with high-sulfur fuel oil (HFO) and low-sulfur fuel oil (LSFO). The samples were
collected during multiple transcontinental voyages between 2021 and 2023.
Metal concentrations were determined using inductively coupled plasma atomic
emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) following ASTM D5185-18. The analyzed elements
include Al, Cu, Fe, Ni, Na, Si, and V.
The dataset provides the measurements used for statistical analyses and regression
modeling presented in the associated manuscript. The data were used to investigate
the accumulation behavior of heavy metals in marine lubricating oil under different
fuel regimes and operating durations.
Ship identifiers have been anonymized to protect operational confidentiality.
