Description
Cities are growing fast, and with more people comes a lot more trash. That’s a real problem—not just for the environment, but for public health too. Right now, most waste sorting is done by hand. It’s slow, takes a lot of effort, and honestly, it just isn’t very accurate. That means more recyclables end up in landfills, and the whole process gets bogged down. This paper introduces an IoT-based smart waste segregation and monitoring system that sorts trash right at the source, without all the hassle. Here’s how it works: an IR sensor spots incoming waste, an MQ135 gas sensor checks if it’s biodegradable, and an ultrasonic sensor keeps track of how full the bin is. An Arduino UNO pulls data from these sensors and tells a servo motor how to sort the waste. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi module sends real-time updates straight to a cloud platform, so you can monitor everything as it happens.Testing shows the system sorts waste accurately and reliably, and the connection stays stable. It’s affordable, easy to expand, and fits well in smart cities, apartment buildings, or on school campuses.
