Description
Since ancient times, the effects of honey on human health have been known and used for a variety of purposes.
In addition to this, due to the low pH value of honey, many harmful bacteria are known to be antimicrobial
because they inhibit their reproduction and development. In this study, antifungal properties of 14 honey
samples (flowers and chestnuts) collected from Camili (Macahel) and Efeler villages of Borçka district of
Artvin province were tested by disk diffusion method in human pathogenic fungal Candida albicans and
evaluated by measuring the zone diameters formed. According to the results of the research, antifungal
properties of 7 flower honey and 7 chestnuts honey sample were recorded in two of them (11.04 mm for flower
honey and 11.55 mm for chestnut honey). It was recorded only in the samples collected from the Camili district
and no antifungal property was detected in the samples collected from the Efeler village.
