Light source harshness

  • 1. University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering

Description

Series of test images used for automation of the light harshness method.

The method evaluates the harshness of the tested light source quantitatively and therefore describes the harshness of the reproduced light beam that is projected onto a standardized surface. The initial method has been published in an article titled Shadow Segmentation With Image Thresholding for Describing the Harshness of Light Sources (https://doi.org/10.1109/TIP.2024.3403487) in IEEE Transactions on Image Processing.

This data series consists of:

  • 180 raw photographs of the standardized surface, which has been illuminated with one of the 60 tested light source and light shaper combination,
  • 180 raw photographs of the same surface, but with added occluder to cast a shadow,
  • preview of a shadowed and unshadowed image pair,
  • 2 reference images for alignment of these test photographs,
  • graphic abstract of the method,
  • list of tested light sources and light shaping attachments (also reffered to as light shapers or light modifiers) along with final results.
