NFDI4Immuno - FAIR Research Data for Immunology
Description
The Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur (National Research Data Infrastructure, NFDI) is a long-term program that aims to build a single interconnected data infrastructure for all research activities in Germany - from the humanities over social sciences to natural sciences. The NFDI is committed to the FAIR Principles, i.e. research data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reuseable, and to a general culture of Open Data (“as open as possible, as closed as necessary”). It is funded by the German federal and state governments and encompasses 26 consortia. The consortium NFDI4Immuno (National Research Data Infrastructure for Immunology) has recently received the final funding approval and is scheduled to start in March 2023. We assemble 16 institutions (11 co-applicants and 5 participants) that comprehensively cover the wide range of immunological subdomains. The main goal of NFDI4Immuno is to build an infrastructure facilitating integrated data analysis by the community. This will be realized by 1) providing high-quality annotated datasets, which follow community standards for metadata and representation (“FAIR data”), 2) operating reliable repositories and services that support an evolving landscape of standards (“interoperable infrastructure”) and 3) enabling the community to utilize these resources for their own research by providing tools and training (“user empowerment”). We plan to present a detailed summary of the consortium’s activities over the next years and how members of the community can interacted with and shape the work of NFDI4Immuno in the future.
