Description

The 3rd Global Summit on Diamond Open Access, held from 2–6 February 2026 in Bengaluru, focused on collaboration for equitable digital infrastructures and knowledge commons across agriculture and broader scientific research systems. The summit brought together global stakeholders to reflect on the future of non-commercial, community-led open access.

Mohamad participated in the panel “Beyond Articles: Rethinking Diamond OA for a Data-Driven Research Future for Early Career Researchers”, organised by CODATA. In his presentation, “From Policy to Infrastructure: Diamond Open Access Beyond Articles”, he highlighted the critical role of research infrastructure in supporting Diamond Open Access, emphasising the need for open access repositories and systems to recognise research outputs beyond articles, including data and software. He also discussed global differences and challenges in persistent identifier (PID) adoption, and highlighted how DataCite, as a global, community-led infrastructure, brings together universities, libraries, funders, and research organisations to support Diamond Open Access initiatives and enable Open Science globally.
