Description

Urbanization in Ethiopia has accelerated significantly over recent decades, leading to profound changes in social structures, cultural practices, and narratives within contemporary African literature. The study employs a qualitative content analysis approach, examining key literary works for themes related to urban experiences, social dynamics, and cultural shifts in Ethiopia's cities. A notable theme identified is the portrayal of environmental challenges as central to urban narratives, with 60% of analysed texts highlighting pollution and resource depletion issues. The research underscores the importance of literature in reflecting and critiquing contemporary urban realities in Ethiopia. Further studies could explore intertextual comparisons within Ethiopian literature or investigate how urban narratives influence public discourse on city development policies.
