CMIP7 Climate Forcings Dataset: Simple plumes for anthropogenic aerosols in H and VL scenarios

Description

We release the data for the anthropogenic aerosol optical properties and their effect on clouds from the Simple Plumes (SP) parameterization for the CMIP7 scenarios H and VL. The two scenario data sets cover the time period 2023 to 2100 inclusive. Gridded emissions of SO2 and NH3 of VL and H of ScenarioMIP-CMIP7 (IIASA-IAMC-h-1-0-0 and IIASA-IAMC-vl-1-0-0), documented by Kikstra et al. (2025), have been used for the temporal scaling in SPv2.1. Using the more recent emission data versions IIASA-IAMC-h-1-1-0 and IIASA-IAMC-vl-1-1-0 would not change SPv2.1 data due to small differences in the total emissions of SO2 and NH3. Methods for the scaling follow the same approach as for the CMIP7 historical data set of SPv2.1 (Fiedler and Azoulay, 2025) and other previously existing scenario data for SP (Fiedler et al., 2019, 2021). The SP parameterization is published and described by Stevens et al. (2017).
