El papel protagonista de Nabucco (1842) fue específicamente creado por Verdi para Giorgio Ronconi, aprovechando las extraordinarias habilidades vocales y dramáticas del cantante que lo erigieron en el primer barítono moderno. Su voz única que combinaba los agudos del tenor con los graves del bajo constituyó una novedad en la época que el propio Ronconi supo reconocer cuando publicó un tratado de canto con el sugerente título de Il Baritono Moderno (1845). Su registro lírico reconfiguró las expectativas vocales y dramáticas de la época, y lo convirtió en una figura central en el desarrollo de los roles baritonales en la ópera romántica y, por tanto, con influencia hasta la actualidad. Este texto constituye un acercamiento integral al Ronconi cantante a través de la revisión de fuentes periodísticas de la época y de los escasos trabajos académicos que proporcionan cierta información sobre el primer barítono moderno, aún no reconocido como tal en la historiografía internacional.
Abstract (English)
The title role of Nabucco (1842) was specifically created by Verdi for Giorgio Ronconi, taking advantage of the singer’s extraordinary vocal and dramatic abilities, which established him as the first modern baritone. His unique voice, combining the upper register of the tenor with the lower range of the bass, constituted a novelty in its time—one that Ronconi himself acknowledged when he published a vocal treatise under the suggestive title Il Baritono Moderno (1845). His lyrical register reshaped the vocal and dramatic expectations of the period and made the Italian singer a central figure in the development of baritonal roles in Romantic opera and, consequently, an influence that persists to the present day. The text constitutes a comprehensive approach to Ronconi as a singer, based on an examination of contemporary journalistic sources and the few scholarly studies that provide some information on the first modern baritone, still not recognised as such in international historiography.
