Ropalidia perovici Polašek, 2025
Observation.
Republic of South Africa • 1 ♀, nest; Jordaanpark, Heidelberg; 26.49925°S, 28.33956°E; 16 Mar 2023; obs Johan Heyns; (Heyns 2023).
Nest.
This species builds a simple discoid nest, with very porous cell wall and irregular cell openings (Heyns 2023); notably, the observed nest was at a very early cycle stage, so maybe cell openings become more regular later in the colony cycle. The cell wall is brown-reddish, with heavily masticated material used in the construction.
