The Kiraksal Conservation Project (2023-2025) provides a comprehensive assessment of the Kiraksal landscape, challenging the historical classification of these semi-arid scrublands as "wastelands" and establishing them as a vital Open Natural Ecosystem (ONE) and a critical breeding stronghold for the Vulnerable Indian Wolf and Striped Hyena. The project documents a total of 606 species and highlights a successful community-led model of conservation through the self-imposed "Tri-System" of Kurhad-bandi (logging ban), Shikar-bandi (hunting ban), and Vanva-bandi (fire ban). To secure the area's long-term future against escalating threats such as land conversion, invasive species, and linear infrastructure development, the primary recommendation is to formally notify the Kiraksal-Bombale-Kalewadi continuous forest cluster as a Conservation Reserve (CR) or a Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS).
