Description

The study focuses on Estonian pupils’ use of digital technologies and the internet, digital literacy, online risks, and parental mediation of internet use. The report also describes the main changes compared with the previous EU Kids Online survey from 2018; in addition, the current study includes new topics such as young people’s mental wellbeing and health, the use of artificial intelligence, and attitudes toward new technological solutions.
Alongside the representative school survey, a qualitative study was conducted in which sixteen young people aged 13–17 were interviewed. The semi-structured individual interviews addressed the use of generative AI applications and tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, My AI, etc.) both in class and outside school. The study explored young people’s experiences, knowledge, skills, and attitudes, as well as the emotions elicited by using AI and the roles attributed to AI or to themselves. One subtopic also concerned children’s and young people’s rights in the context of AI use.
