Hülya Demir serves as an associate professor in the Department of Graphic Design at the Faculty of Fine

Arts of Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi, where she pursues her academic research in parallel with her artistic production in a mutually enriching manner. Her work is shaped around graphic design, illustration, visual culture, critical art pedagogy, and new

media art, with particular emphasis on conceptual themes such as identity, representation, cultural memory, space, and the relationship between the individual and environment.

In her artistic practice, conceptual thinking, visual metaphor, and critical narrative play a central role. She combines photography, digital visualization, typography, and experimental design practices through an interdisciplinary approach. In this respect, Demir’s work emerges not only as an aesthetic form of expression but also as a platform for intellectual inquiry and the development of social awareness.

Having participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, she contributes to the field of art and design education through academic publications, conference papers, workshops, and collaborative projects. In her teaching practice, she adopts an approach that encourages critical thinking, creative expression, and visual literacy, fostering a production-oriented dialogue with students grounded in contemporary art and design perspectives.

Emphasizing the permeability between art and academia, the artist conducts research that supports interdisciplinary modes of production while examining contemporary transformations in visual culture on both theoretical and practical levels. Within this context, her work seeks to offer a critical and innovative perspective on the role of art in shaping social memory, identity construction, and cultural expression.
