Description

The dataset presented here originates from a field deployment of two tethered balloons, the EERL helikites, at Neumayer Station III in coastal Antarctica. This dataset includes the recorded variables, details of the instruments deployed during the campaign, and the corresponding data processing steps. Measurements focused on aerosol and meteorological parameters along vertical profiles. A total of 68 flights during the southern hemisphere summer season provided aerosol and droplet number size distributions between 8 nm and 43 µm, along with vertical thermodynamic measurements. All variables were time-synchronized, quality-controlled, and corrected to Standard Temperature and Pressure (STP) when applicable. Further information on the Helikite instrumentation is available in Pohorsky et al. (2024), and details of the data processing steps can be found in Schmale et al., in prep.
